Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Greetings to you from northern North Dakota - six miles from Canada =
and forty miles west of the International Peace Gardens. It is a flat =
as flat can be except for the Turtle Mountains - thirty miles east of =
here. In June and July we have as many shades of green as we have =
crops. Then the canola and mustard turn a bright yellow, the sunflowers =
start out a yellow but slowly turn to brown, and the flax goes from blue =
to a rich, dark brown. I thought that when I left Minnesota and =
Wisconsin, I would leave the deer behind, but they are as numerous here =
as in the other states.
I am the associate pastor of a seven point parish - Prairie Hope =
Ministry - which came together in 1999. It consists of five ELCA =
congregations, one Presbyterian congregation and a nursing home. My =
lead pastor is retiring at the end of December 2003. Some of the =
congregations are having financial difficulty, so changes will be made. =
Keep us in your prayers.=20
In my other life I am a volunteer ambulance driver but not an EMT. =
One beautiful, sunny morning we were called to a farm. One of our EMTs =
went out to the ambulance for a backboard to transfer the patient from =
his bed to the gurney. Once loaded, we took off down the crushed rock =
road. Less than a mile down the road I received a call from the =
dispatcher, saying that I was losing stuff. I looked in my mirror but =
did not see anything. I stopped and checked my doors. They were all =
closed. Then the patient's wife and daughter pulled up and proceeded to =
give me another backboard, a cylinder of oxygen, and other equipment. =
Embarrassed, I put them away and proceeded to the hospital. The =
patient's wife and daughter saw the problem just as we were leaving the =
farm but the only way that they could communicate with me was to use =
their cell phone and call the dispatcher. I should audition for the =
Three Stooges or the Keystone Cops.
Have a laugh on me,
Carl=20

Any one know anyhting about the Luther in the Rockies schedule for =
this next year? Approximate dates, approximate costs, etc. We've got =
an interest in going, but I have to turn in my budget to the church this =
week, and I can't begin to guess the costs, dates, etc. Any help out =
there? Thanks. Dennis.
