[TCARES 0720] D-STAR Repeater Linking Best Practices

Just a reminder for those of you with D-STAR radios to please unlink our
local 146.730- repeater (W9ARP-C) from a reflector or other repeater when
you are finished listening or using it. It is there for everyone to use for
linking, but please be considerate of others and disconnect (unlink with
the "U" command) when you are done. This leaves the repeater in its
"normal" state and ready to be used for local-only communications, or for
others to actively link or use routing for connected communications.

The W9ARP-B repeater (444.300+ MHz) is normally linked to reflector 24B,
the Indiana statewide reflector. It may be unlinked for other use, but will
automatically connect back to 24B when the repeater is unused for a period
of time and not linked to another system.

The 2M D-STAR repeater does not have this function, and will remain in its
state (either linked or unlinked) indefinitely until changed by another
user. As a quick guide for W9ARP D-STAR repeater use:

W9ARP-B (443.500+) : Normally linked to REF024B, the Indiana statewide
reflector

W9ARP-C (146.730-): Local use; normally unlinked, to be used for linking to
other repeaters and reflectors, callsign routing, experimenting, etc., by
local hams on demand

The normal state of the 2M D-STAR repeater should be unlinked, unless it is
being used (either actively or just monitoring) by local hams. Don't
hesitate to use it for linking and experimenting, as that is what it's
there for. But please be considerate of others and unlink when you're done.
Thanks for helping make ham radio a hobby we can all enjoy and share!
